We have received many calls and emails about the harvest so we asked some of the Winemakers at Napa Wine Company about their impressions of the 2005 Harvest.
"I am enjoying the harvest lull like a normal person. You can’t really do anything to rush Mother Nature. The heat spikes will happen as they do every year. More than likely, we’ll get the heat, as we do every year but then everything will ripen at once and winemakers will get crazy!" -- Heidi Barrett 9/16
"The fruit coming in looks luscious and lovely. Good flavors and balance in the Sauvignon Blanc. The unusually cool growing season has caused a long hang time for the fruit to develop. Reds still have not yet come in as we are waiting for more hot weather to spike up the sugar levels. Grapes are still at 21 degree brix and need the hot temperatures. The weatherman has promised some heat next week so things are rolling right along." --Randy Mason 9/21
"With the long cool growing season reminiscent of 1997 this could be the vintage of the decade! The full clusters coming in so far of Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir are delicious and juicy. All we need is continued heat like today’s 90 degree day to push the harvest right along. There is a hint of rain late Sunday or early Monday, but then heat is promised mid-week to later in the week so we should be fine. Everyone so far is pleased and excited about the quality of the fruit." --Rob Lawson 9/28
"Ya! We are already done harvesting our Semillion and Sauvignon Blanc but are anxiously waiting for the Merlot, Cabernet Franc and the Cabernet Sauvignon. Rain is forecasted over the weekend but later in the week after the heat spikes again we will begin picking our reds with great excitement. We are very happy so far with the fruit of 2005." --Volker Eisele 9/28
